Family Promise helps children and their parents when they face situational homelessness.

Family Promise supports them on their path to regaining sustainable independence. Our mission is accomplished by volunteers in local faith-based congregations who provide radical hospitality to our guest families.

What We Do

Our mission is to help families experiencing homelessness in their quest to achieve sustainable independence. While our guest families work toward that goal, congregations in the faith-based community provide them with temporary shelter and hospitality.

Our Story

Family Promise is a national, non-profit initiative founded in 1986. With affiliates in more than 180 U.S. cities, Family Promise brings the faith community together to help families regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity. It offers opportunities for volunteers of all faiths to reduce homelessness and transform lives.

Measuring Our Impact

We accomplish our mission by delivering the below life-saving programs.

Homelessness Prevention

By working to prevent evictions, we help families avoid homelessness.

Temporary Shelter

For families experiencing homelessness, we provide temporary shelter through our local host churches, in rented units, in transitional housing, and through our community partners.

Stabilization Services

Our Continuing the Promise program will ensure that graduating families remain stable in their housing, thus, reducing the recidivism rate back to homelessness.

Supportive, temporary housing that serves to bridge the gap from homelessness to permanent housing.

We Can’t Do It Alone

Your generous donations during events and on any day throughout the year, make a tangible difference in the lives of the families we serve. We would like to give a special thanks to our Donors.

Coming Together As a United Community

Families in our program are provided with shelter, meals, and hospitality. We use churches in the Columbia area to shelter the families in our program. Families stay at each church for one week at a time, moving to a different church each Sunday evening. Families in our program are provided with a private, home-like room to sleep in at night. Families are also given access to shower and laundry facilities.
